A staircase is a very important structure within a home that has multiple levels or storeys. It is a means for homeowners, and their family or friends, to get from one floor to another with ease and utmost convenience. More than its functional purpose, stairs are also indoor features that must blend with the theme of the house to make the surrounding aesthetically appealing. There are various types of staircases made by designers such as www.staircaseparts.co.uk and each one is designed to conform to the available space within a house, the main function it would serve for the homeowner, and how it would fit into the general theme of the house.

The most common type is the straight flight. It features a set of risers, treads, and balusters that head straight to the next level. No curves and no turning points. There are certain variations to the straight staircase depending on the types of landing, such as the dog-leg flight or U stairs that feature a 180 degrees turn landing, the L stairs that feature a 90 degrees turn landing, and the winder flight with a sharp turn which resembles triangular pie-like steps.

Homes with a classic theme are usually built with grand staircases, like circular types, for extra drama and elegance. This type features a number of treads and risers that bend into a wide curve up to the next level. One side of the steps are connected to the balusters while the other is supported by a wall that also curves along with it.

Spiral staircases, although similar to the circular type, is more often used in homes with limited space. This usually features steps that wind in a spiral twisting around a centre pole with the other side connected to its balustrade.

Freestanding staircases are ideal for homes with a lot of space to spare. This usually starts in the middle of the room going up to the next level with balusters and handrails on both sides of the staircase.

Modern types feature the floating effect in which steps seem to be floating in thin air. This usually features glass or fibreglass support that is meant to be invisible for that uniquely modern appeal.
